About Mission, KS - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The rich history of Mission, Kansas dates back to its settlement in 1854, although the community was previously home to Kansas and Osage Indian tribes. Today, roughly 9,500 people live in this Johnson County community, and it was named after the original Indian mission located here in 1829. Located only minutes from Kansas City, Missouri, residents of Mission enjoy a friendly and safe residential atmosphere with all the excitement of the nearby big city.
Despite the community’s small-town feel, there are plenty of things to see and do in Mission. The Mission Family Aquatic Center is a popular destination during the summer months, while the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center offers an indoor pool, basketball courts, and a variety of exercise classes. Visitors might also like to check out one of the local specialty shops, like Oregano & Thyme Mediterranean Market & Deli or Werner’s Fine Sausages.
Mission is situated within the upper boundaries of a humid subtropical climate zone. Winters here are cold, but compared to cities in the Upper Midwest, snowfall totals are modest. Freezing rain and ice storms are more of a concern, especially since there are many days in which high temperatures fail to surpass the freezing point. A high-efficiency gas or electric furnace will keep residents warm regardless of outdoor weather conditions.
The spring months in Mission are warm and wet, with significant rain and the potential for storms, and the season will lead to a hot and muggy summer. July is the hottest month of the year, with average daily high temperatures in the low-90s. However, thermostat readings into the upper-90s or even triple digits are possible. Mission residents will rely heavily on their home cooling systems throughout the season, specifically a central A/C unit. Central air conditioning systems lower temperatures while also purifying air, offering a convenient way to cool off a living space.
